Birth of the Sun
Storytellers

The recreation of Grady’s mural “Birth of the Sun” is a central act of the film, establishing a physical link between the past and present. Artists who knew Grady, and artists represented by El Taller Latino Americano, where Grady spent much of his creative time before his death, gathered to add their own talents to bring the mural back to life. Among those who participated in the recreation are Andrea Arroyo, Thom Corn, Jeff Schlanger, Angelo Romero, Laura Gilbert, Ricardo Pliego, Bernardo Palombo, and Marc Romero. The mural, which originally was part of El Taller when Grady was alive, will now become a permanent addition to the present-day El Taller on Broadway and 103rd Street.

The musical soundtrack was created by Demian Palombo, who called upon his memories and experiences with Grady to compose and perform a complex and haunting series of original songs and music. Most of the soundtrack was recorded at present-day El Taller, as both multi-track and live perfomances. Guest musicians who appear in the film include, among others, Quequi Sinesi, Mike Campani, Bernardo Palombo, Jose Valdez, and Tico da Costa.
